Traveling Through Washington
Hey all me VW bruthas and sistahs!
I’m finally on the road after a year of work and planning and thus far I’m having a great time. It’s nice to just cruise in the bus each day and take my time instead of working on someone elses time. I left Vancouver on the 21st and scooted around the Olympic Peninsula. On day one I met up with vwkombi1966 and enjoyed a few hours of his hospitality before heading off to a campground and parking it for the night. It was a pretty frigid night. My search for a heater earlier in the day was to no avail as everyone was sold out because of the storms that had hit the Northwest recently. No worries. The next morning it was off to the Peninsula. The main highway that runs through there isn’t overly dramatic and you really have to get off the beaten path to find the scenic spots. Something I would have loved to have done had it not SNOWED on me that night. Enough was enough….time to head south. I drove all day and night and finally ended up in South Bend where I found a little trailer court that put me up for the night. I needed the electricity for the heater otherwise I would have just boondocked somewhere. Ah what a blessed night that was…I slept all the way through without having to get up to adjust my blankets and find my touque. (wool hat for the non-canucks). Yesterday was miserable….rain and wind the whole ride. Dante was getting chucked all over the place and then, just before Portland, my signals start getting all wonky. No left or right but in the neutral position the thing is clicking like mad. I just wanted to get on the freeway and find a turnoff for a campground somewhere so that I could relax on Christmas Day and take it easy. I finally did find a spot just outside of Portland which is where I’m bedded down for a few nights and then it’s south to Cali. I might even bail tomorrow but I wouldn’t mind finding another traveler to share the ride.
It’s all going good and life in the bus is very comfy. Sure I get chucked around in the wind but I wouldn’t trade the hightop for anything.
I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays and I’ll fire off another update when I get some time. Cheers!!
